It all started in 1978…

Michigan Association of Calligraphers (MAC) is a non-profit organization that is open to all who are interested in calligraphy, the art of beautiful writing. Its principal purposes and functions are to perpetuate, enhance, and promote the art of calligraphy.

Who Are MAC’s Members?

Our membership includes beginning through advanced students, professional calligraphers and interested hobbyists and artists. MAC has approximately 100 members, most of whom live in Michigan, although we also have members in a handful of other states and countries.

What Does MAC Do?

MAC sponsors general meetings four times a year in March, May, September and December. These meetings typically include any updates about the organization itself, followed by a lecture, demonstration, or lesson related to the art of calligraphy.

We also host various programs, workshops and lectures throughout the year on topics ranging from alphabets, alphabet variations, creative use of lettering and related interests, such as bookbinding.

In addition, MAC sponsors annual exhibitions, which may be either juried and non-juried, to expose the general public to all that calligraphy is and to provide our members with an opportunity to exhibit our work.

Who Keeps MAC Running?

While we are financially supported by membership dues, donations, and proceeds from various events and workshops, the Board of Directors run meetings and workshops and handle the backend operations. The Board serves voluntarily and is a dedicated group. If you’re interested in getting involved as a board member, feel free to reach out to the Michigan Association of Calligrapher’s Board.
