INTRODUCTION TO CALLIGRAPHY

Michigan Association of Calligraphy is presenting a One-Day Workshop which introduces the essential tools for Basic Pointed Pen Calligraphy, including pen holders, steel nibs, inks, paper, as well as their uses. Instead of focusing on a specific alphabet, you will explore the versatility of the pointed pen for decorative work, drawing, outlining, writing and more. You will also learn how to choose among various nib styles and discover creative ways to use a wide range of ink colors.

April 11 OR April 18, 2026 (pick the day that works best for you)

9:00 AM to 4:15 PM

Grosse Pointe Congregational Church

240 Chalfonte Ave

Grosse Pointe Farms, MI

REGISTRATION FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING SUPPLIES:

  • Three Nibs: A Hunt 22B, A Nikko G and A Hiro Blue Pumpkin

  • A Speedball basic hourglass holder

  • Four Pipettes (2) for transferring fluids and (2) to be used as additional dipping vessels

  • A Dinky Dip Holder with Two small vials (called Dinkies) and lids

  • A Small Vessel of Sumi Moon Palace Ink

  • A Small Practice Pad of Paper.

OTHER SUPPLIES TO BRING:

  • Notebook, Pencils, Ink Pen, 5-6 Colored Pencils

  • Water Dish (Small)

  • Paper Towels (8-10)

  • Snack to Share

  • Brown Bag Lunch & Beverage

About the Instructor:

Vicki Corwin, a Professional Calligrapher with 24 years' experience, has taught numerous classes. She aims to help beginners develop skills with calligraphy tools and progress toward structured lettered alphabets. Vicki has served on the MAC Board of Directors for many years.

April 8, 2026, for the April 18 Class.
